Challenges of Becoming an Esthetician

Esthetician careers are incredibly rewarding, but the path to becoming an esthetician isn’t always easy. However, it’s usually the most rigorous esthetician programs that make for the best licensed estheticians, who enjoy a lifetime of success in their own practice or at a salon of their choice. Estelle Skin Care & Spa Institute is a nationally accredited esthetician school, with hands-on esthetician classes that take a deep dive into what it means to become an esthetician. Learning About Cells & Anatomy

Esthetician school isn’t just beauty school — it’s a science. Sure, we teach students how to apply makeup, do facials, and perfect a body wrap, but we also get into the scientific concepts that explain how certain skincare treatments work. In our esthetician program, we offer medical esthetics classes at no additional cost, where students get to learn the science of laser, intense pulsed light (IPL), LED light therapy, chemical peels, advanced exfoliation, and more. We also explore electrotherapy with vitamin infusion, as well as ultrasound infusion, light-microdermabrasion, and Dermafile treatments. These classes are slightly more challenging, but they are a great option for students who are looking to attend a medical esthetician school and work in a medical setting after graduation.

Working With People All Day

Licensed estheticians spend their entire day around people, whether that be clients, colleagues, or teachers (if they’re enrolled in an esthetician continuing education program). That being said, it’s important that you are able to work well with others, and that you can educate clients and make them feel at ease during their treatment. That this type of work isn’t always easy for those who aren’t a “people person” naturally, but that isn’t to say that you can’t become an esthetician if you’re an introvert. It might just be a little more challenging at first.

Esthetician School & Continuing Education

Another challenging aspect of becoming an esthetician is that you’ll need to stay up to date on your esthetician education. Even if you land an esthetician job the moment you graduate from esthetician school, you’ll still have to take continuing education courses every few years. This is because the science of esthetics is constantly evolving with new methods and technology, and all licensed estheticians must be on the same page. However, this shouldn’t keep you from pursuing an esthetician career — it just means you’ll be able to keep learning and growing in your practice, which will only make you better at what you love!
